Lion Sands River Lodge | Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve
River Lodge is the soul of The Lion Sands Game Reserve and has been built on the banks of the Sabie River, positioned on a site with trees dating back 800 years. Here you are invited to relax and experience African hospitality at its finest. River Lodge has a feel of lived-in luxury and guests are invited to make themselves at home.
Living spaces include a Safari Lounge and Bar; Barista’s Station with artisanal coffees; Gallery (showcasing the works of renowned local artists); and OneLife MORE boutique.
The dining experience includes the traditional Boma ‘with a twist’; the signature Riverbed dinners and deck dining, in the shade of the trees and overlooking the Sabie River. Breakfast is a home-styled experience.
Lodge facilities include: a Spa and gym; a main swimming pool area; a ‘Memory Lab’, where guests will be able to print their photographs on canvas; and a Firepit for sociable nocturnal gatherings beneath the stars. River Lodge’s accommodation comprises 8 Luxury Rooms, 6 Superior Luxury Rooms and 4 River Suites (each with its own plunge pool). One of the River Suites has 2 bedrooms.

The African landscape stretches as far as the eye can see at Lion Sands, and we knew we had to find a special place to capture and enjoy its vastness and splendour. Guy Aubrey Chalkley once set up camp in a majestic centuries old Leadwood Tree to escape predators roaming the plains below.
We decided that this would be the ideal place to build the ultimate bush bedroom, the Chalkley Treehouse. The treehouse is a secure and lavish platform under the African stars, with all the comforts that a guest can experience at a five star safari lodge.
We take our guests to the tree house at sunset, where drinks and a scrumptious picnic dinner await them. The hours of African dusk can be enjoyed relaxing and absorbing the vastness of the bushveld as it transforms from day to night, before turning in for slumber beneath the incredible night sky.
Make your way through rows of magnificent white boulders and across a small drawbridge, and you will find Africa opening up in front if you. Set amid the pure and untouched wild, you will be surrounded by African bush and uninhibited wildlife at its best.
The Kingston Treehouse is constructed entirely from wood and glass, with contemporary décor in understated hues of greys, white, black and purple. No matter what the weather has in store, you will have a safe and luxurious setting with a unique window to enjoy the ever-changing views. In fact, we defy you to find two identical African sunsets.
The 60m2 Treehouse is situated about 5 minutes from the main lodge, and you will have radio contact with the rangers, should you choose to. You will also find some cellphone reception; but don’t expect any wi-fi in the bush. Kingston is equipped with full bathroom and shower facilities, and Africology products to complete your sensory experience.
Before a dinner of tapas or a full meal with Champagne,
enjoy an hour-long massage under the stars to relax and
become quiet with the nature around you. A yoga mat and
chart are also provided for your use, should the whim strike
More Community Trust (MCT) welcomes hands on help from guests with a firm social conscience and will to get involved in keeping our development projects going. Our guest Get Your Hands Dirty programmes at Lion Sands Game Reserve (soon to be rolled out to all MORE’s properties) have been developed to meet the local community’s core needs around: education, health and environment, and infrastructure. These extraordinary social experiences bring guests into the heart of Southern Africa to connect with local people, while making their (and guests’ own) dreams come true.
A Get Your Hands Dirty experience will be customised to the individual guest or group’s strengths and areas of interest.

More Community Trust Community Tour
We support Injongo Educare Centre, in Cape Town’s Mfuleni township, through Matchbox – a non-profit organisation working to improve the quality of life and learning for young children living in South Africa’s underprivileged township communities.
Injongo was founded in January 2008 by courageous Mfuleni resident, Mavis Ngcongolo. Troubled by seeing the many children who wandered the streets unattended during the day, she opened the doors of her tiny shack on a 90m2 piece of land as a crèche. Although many parents could not afford the low fees, Mavis still managed to create a safe and loving environment.
Today, Injongo cares for about 125 children – and is more than a crèche. Mavis and her team offer the centre as a space for: children to do their homework and prepare for exams; upskilling sewing courses for unemployed parents; photography workshops; church services; cultural celebrations; and community events. All of Mfuleni benefit from Injongo and have a deep sense of pride in their centre.
